According to the jury selected from Finland Convention Bureau’s advisory board, Dr. Huovinen has excellent international networks and has demonstrated a desire to promote Finnish expertise internationally. One of his biggest personal achievements that was recognised by the jury was attracting the 19th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases to Finland in May 2009. This was one of the biggest international association meetings ever held in Finland. “This congress is just one example of the valuable work that Dr. Huovinen has done to promote Finland. Such congresses generate not only a strong reputation for Finland, but also considerable income. Last year international association meetings and other scientific meetings accounted for around 104 million euros of direct tourism income to our country,” comments Kerstin Träskman, Acting Managing Director of Finland Convention Bureau. Dr. Huovinen has also been very active in international associations and organisations related to his field of bacterial and infectious diseases. The European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, for example, named him the recipient of its Award of Excellence.
The Pro Congress award was handed out at a special event organised by Finland Convention Bureau at Hotel Kämp in Helsinki. The award ceremony is part of National Meetings Week, which is being held from 12-16 April 2010. « Back |
